The CCP Didn’t Fight Imperial Japan; the KMT Did

While the KMT (Kuomintang) military defended China against Japan during WWII, the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) built up strength for the civil war.

As Diplomat readers are well aware — and the Pacific Realist is frankly sick of —China has mounted a sustained campaign demanding that Tokyo take a “correct” view of Imperial Japan’s unspeakable crimes during WWII.

Beijing Embraces Classical Fascism

In 2002, I speculated that China may be something we have never seen before: a mature fascist state. Recent events there, especially the mass rage in response to Western criticism, seem to confirm that theory. More significantly, over the intervening six years China’s leaders have consolidated their hold on the organs of control–political, economic and cultural. Instead of gradually embracing pluralism as many expected, China’s corporatist elite has become even more entrenched.

Vietnam activists 'to form multi-party democracy'

A group of activists in Vietnam have expressed their intention to form a new political party to promote multi-party democracy in the communist country.

They include members of the Communist Party, which has a monopoly on political power under the constitution.
